The Mayan ‘Taste of the Tropics’ restaurant is now open and the menu is something to roar about! After a summer of construction and a fall filled with careful menu planning and item selection, visitors are raving-about the food and the facility. A great deal of attention was paid to ensure that prices were kept affordable and healthy food options where offered including salads and wraps in addition to the scrumptious staples like monster hamburgers, hot dogs, loaded nachos and mozzarella monkey tails. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a slice of Scambotti’s New York style pizza either-it’s amazing and a new feature for the restaurant.

The zoo’s Master Plan included the provision for a Mayan-themed eatery within the center of the park. And, that’s precisely where you’ll find this majestic 4,500 sq ft building which features seating for 100 indoors and ample outdoor tables peacefully perched next to the trumpeter swan pond. Harkening a Mayan temple and boasting ceilings as high as 30ft in the dining area, the building beckons visitors from just about everywhere. Better yet, diners have a gorgeous panoramic view of many exhibits including the giraffes and their feeding platform, the Great Plains area, the African wattled cranes and the river otters. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the zoo!

Morning Gatherings

The Mayan Taste of the Tropics Restaurant is the perfect place for your corporate or group morning meetings. The facility is available from 7:00am-9:00am and can be secured for $100 for the facility alone. If your guests wish to visit the zoo after the meeting, regular admission rates apply and can be paid for in advance by the group or individually during/after the meeting right at the Mayan.

After Hours Events

Having an event and in need of the perfect setting? Consider the Mayan Taste of the Tropics Restaurant as your facility extraordinaire! This gorgeous building is available for rental 1 hour after the zoo closes. From April thru September, the Mayan is available from 7:00pm-10:00pm. During the months of November thru March, the Mayan is available from 5:00pm-10:00pm. Rates are $175/hour.

NEW Zoo Rental • Rent the Whole Zoo!

If your guests wish to visit the zoo during your event, renting the entire facility may be your best option. For $1000 plus the cost of admission per guest, the entire zoo (including use of the Mayan Taste of the Tropics Restaurant) can be yours! Invite your guests to order off of our full menu or select a customized menu from our catering options-the sky is the limit when it comes to your dining experience.
